Your Perineum Postpartum

Your Perineum Postpartum

Your Perineum will likely be sore/tender & swollen for the first days after the birth. No surprises there!!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have had stitches or a tear, it is recommended by many doctors to have at least one sitz bath a day. Soak in a clean tub filled with several inches of warm water or use a portable sitz bath over your toilet that is much more convenient. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Add our SOOTHIC Kunzea Sitz Bath Soak that helps promote wound healing and soothes those sore tender areas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After bathing, allow time for your perineum to be exposed to the air as this also promotes healing: lie down on a towel or pad for around 30 minutes if time allows with a newborn.

The normal healing process for stitches or tears progresses from tenderness in the first days to slightly itchy. Using a perineal ice pack for 10-15 mins at a time and lying down as much as possible, rather than sitting, limits unnecessary pressure on your perineum and maximizes healing blood flow/circulation to the area. Try to minimize standing for long periods of time, or too much stair-climbing to begin with. If your perineum is aching, you have probably been on your feet too long and need to rest. Easier said than done but self care for you to heal is as important as you new bundle of joy is.
